The Web3 Summit is organized around a single rallying call: to facilitate a fully functional and user-friendly decentralized web. The most recent summit took place from October 22-24 2018 in Berlin, bringing together technologists and builders working to advance the development and adoption of a permissionless internet. While the ideals of Web3 are far from universally realized, they certainly carry with them a universal appeal. We highlight a few videos from the summit below, and invite you to check out the entire repository of talks and pitches here.

What is Web3?

Web3, according to the Web3 Foundation, is "the vision of the serverless internet, the decentralized web. Ideally, it is an internet where users are in control of their own data, identity, and destiny." From a technical standpoint, this is what the Web3 tech stack currently looks like:

Once you're more familiar with the basic idea and philosophy of Web3 and decentralized / peer-to-peer systems, we encourage you to check out these other videos below.

So, What about Politics? - Bernd Fix

Web3 Summit is an event with an agenda, and as such we recommend you explore these videos with both an open mind and a grain of salt. With that said, it is exciting to watch how decades old hacker philosophies on privacy, governance, and technology are coming to life through the promises of blockchain technology.

As Bernd Fix ended his talk with, "Don't repeat the biggest mistakes we as hackers made in the past: to believe that technology will change the world by itself. It will not. As long as we are distracted by the technical details and don't ask the political questions, others will set the rules of our society on their terms."
